windy city…

March 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Charleston!  It was so windy.  Like sometimes I felt like we were walking thru a hurricane windy.  The sun never showed it face.  But in spite of it all we had a good time…we ate, shopped, ate, ate, slept, shopped, and ate some more.  It was fun.

This is going to be a busy week:  Dave’s got lots of work.  We need to register at Belk and Bed Bath and Beyond…our first shower is April 20 at my parent’s church.  His parents come into town on Thursday and will be here till Sunday…with a day visit on Friday from his brother and his family.  So much to get ready for….so little time!

Reception

March 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I have no clue were to have it.  Can’t find a place that isn’t outrageous!  I am exploring my options.  If you have any suggestions for a reception site in the Westminster-Walhalla-Seneca, South Carolina area let me know.

I am leaving today for Charleston with some good girl friends to celebrate one of their upcoming weddings!  Should be fun…I just hope the sun decides to come along too!

Going to the chapel…

Yahoo!  Last night I found my wedding dress at David’s Bridal.  I am so excited and it is exactly what I wanted.  It’s perfect and now I can’t wait till my wedding down when I get to walk down the aisle with my daddy and marry David Lee Smith!

Tonight I met with a photographer and booked her and him!  Check out www.dreamimageweddings.com .  They are awesome and I am so glad they are available.  April 13 is the engagement pictures…I can’t wait!

After I met with the photog I met up with Dave and our friends Matt and Joy for dinner.  It was a lot of fun…Matt and Joy have been friends with Dave for a long time and they were Dave’s first friends I met after we started dating.  Matt is going to be in our wedding…i know he is super excited about wearing a tux in JUNE!

Easter

March 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Dave and I left early Sunday morning to head to the big city of Walhalla.  After getting ready at my parents and opening our easter bags (in lu of a basket) we headed to church.  It was a great service.  I always love hearing my daddy preach.  He is my favorite preacher and I don’t think that will ever change!  My mom cooked a wonderful lunch…two of my favorite broccoli casserole and baked ham!  And who can forget Granny Zuckner’s blueberry cake…I think Dave ate 3 pieces!  YUMMY!  Easter is definitely one of my favorite holidays…most importantly because we get to celebrate our LIVING Savior and its a wonderful time with family!!

We made one!  The official date is going to be June 21, 2008!  I stopped by the fire department on the way out to the house tonight and Dave said…let’s just get married in June.  So…JUNE it is.  Boy-I’ve got some planning to do!  This weekend we are going to my parents to celebrate Easter.  I am excited about going home and sharing the news with all the people at my daddy’s church.

A story to tell…

March 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

YAHHHH!  I’m engaged.  I still can’t believe it…of course its only been a couple days.  It will set in eventually I am sure.  Since Friday night I think I have told the story 100 times.  Which is just fine…I love it.  All of our parents are so excited.  Now just to decide when?!  We are thinking either June (I know I will have to start planning fast) or October.  Looks like we are leaning towards October…especially because of Amy’s wedding in July.   I made an appointment today for next Tuesday to try on wedding dresses!  I can’t wait!  (Dave tells me I have to wait until the end of this week to start asking him questions and making decisions…so until then…!)

No Joke

March 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well a little back story:

For weeks…even months Dave has been joking with me about getting engaged. His has told me several times he has taken 3 or 4 rings back because I keep on changing my mind about what type of ring I want (not true). He also has told me how funny he thought it would be to propose with an empty ring box.

Fast forward to today:

Today after work I went out to Dave’s to cook dinner for us. He came home to me grilling out on the deck. We exchanged our normal how was your day…what are we eating comments. I told him I had bought had bought him a something and it was in the kitchen…he walked in to find a bottle of Red Diamond. He asked, “Are you trying to tell me something?” I laughed and said yes I am trying to send you a subliminal message…I NEED a ring! He laughed and said, “You know what this reminds me of what I forgot to do today.” I replied, “What take another ring back?” As he was emptying his pockets he said no I didn’t forget to do that I actually picked it up today. I started saying over and over again, “Dave don’t play like this.” He asked if I thought right now would be a romantic time. I said well it could be if you weren’t joking. He told me to wait a minute- out to his truck he went. He came back in and got down on one knee and held a closed white box in his hand. I said Dave Smith if this is a joke I am going to be so mad at you. He told me how he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and said Jessica will you marry me? I still thought it was all a bad joke because he was smiling so big…I said Dave is this is no joke YES I’ll marry you. He opened the box and inside was the most beautiful ring I had ever laid eyes on. I couldn’t even look at it because I felt like I was dreaming. I even asked oh my is this a dream…I can’t believe this is really happening.

It wasn’t a dream…but a dream come true!!!

Hard Working Man

March 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This month is crazy for Dave.  He is such a hard worker.  I really admire him for that.  This month instead of working his usual 10 days at the fire department he will be working 16 days due to training.  On top of that he still has to manage his pressure washing business.  He worked Tuesday, March 4-14 with no days off.  And next week is not going to  be any better for him.  I love him for his dedication to what he does.  He is wonderful.  I just love him to death!

Note:  This is one of my favorite pictures of Dave…he is with our friend Lily.  We were at the Tinkham wedding when Lily decided she wanted to dance while everyone was eating.  So what does Dave do- he grabs Lily and takes her to the dance floor and dances an entire song with her!  See I told you he is wonderful!

i heart daylight

March 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I love the fact that it is staying daylight longer!  It makes the days so much sweeter.  Recap of this weekend:  Friday- Dave worked so I stayed at the house with the dogs.  Saturday- I met my mom and sister Audrey so she could get fitted for her bridesmaid’s dress for Amy’s wedding.  Saturday afternoon we had a shower for the soon-to-be Mrs. Surratt.  She embarasses easily- so requested everyone give her gift cards for her lingerie shower rather than buying her anything.  Well, she got gift cards…and alot of other fun stuff…we still managed to embarass her!  Saturday night Dave and I had set two friends of ours up on a blind date.  It wasn’t terrible…but I quit trying to Dr. Love.  I am no good at it.  Sunday Dave and I went to Cherrydale Church to watch one of the other firemen get baptized.  It was pretty neat.  Instead of a large baptismal pool like you see in most traditional Baptist churches they had this box that was probably 4 feet tall and 5 feet long and only 3 feet wide.  I kept on wondering how big Tom (he is 6′6”) was going to fit in that little box with the preacher.  No worries…the preacher stayed outside the box.  The best part was when the preacher dunked Tom under the water (that had obviously filled it too full) water came splashing out like a tidal wave.  The pastor hollered “Tsunami!”  It was hysterical.  It was a great day…a great weekend!!  -
